Memoir Writing Group

I can’t believe I survived college!

I am writing a little memoir of my college years.

Here is the Oxford dictionary definition of the word, “memoir.”

https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/us/definition/english/memoir

Or Monday I am going to the public library to attend a public memoir writing group.

I enjoy writing.

I really enjoyed college.

Too much!

I worked at the campus radio station for 15 years as a broadcaster as well.

And yes, like Albert Einstein I am a polymath too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polymath

Unlike Einstein I did not discover the Theory of Relativity.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theory_of_relativity

My only phenomena was surviving two car accidents in two months that totaled both cars!

When I graduated I had over 500 credits from my University spanning 14 years.

I took a double major in Music and in English, along with a number of other credits in subjects ranging from anatomy, science fiction, film studies, to sailing, theater arts, chemistry, horsemanship and many, many more classes.

I took morning, noon and night classes.

I attended classes Autumn, Winter, Spring, and Summer.

My thirst for knowledge was driven by the fact I dropped out of high school at age 15.

I was a non-traditional student who began college at age 29. When I graduated I was in my forties!

I felt I needed to catch up intellectually.

I liked being a perpetual student.

I will let you know how the memoir writing group goes next week. ✍

Thursday Book Review: Lose the Clutter, Lose the weight

Peter Walsh know his stuff!

Ok. So I am a pack-rat.

Where do I find the wisdom to change?

Peter Walsh!

I’ve admired his no-nonsense reasoning since the first time I saw him on TV.

But his book, “Lose the Clutter, Lose the weight,” is a good remedy for many who have too much

Here is a gem for you to consider.

Clutter comes from:

1. Bringing too much stuff into your home. 🏡 (Aquisiton)

2. Not getting rid of enough of it. (Difficulty discarding it.)

3. Allowing clutter to spread throughout your home to where it doesn’t belong. (Clutter’s core.)

So if you have ADHD like me, or just generalized anxiety disorder about your pig-sty, this book is a gem!

Of course you won’t get it all done  in 6 weeks.

But, the first step is understanding  what clutter is.

The first way to get started is to get educated, not overwhelmed.

Peace and love on Ringo’s birthday.

82 today. Glad he kicked the smokes and he’s a vegetarian too!

We can all do our best to make changes for a better life!

Farmer’s Market Song

Gigantic radishes

I love Farmer’s markets.

I even wrote a lovely original short song about it.  🎶

https://youtu.be/hc-ZjGYhX14

Home-grown tomatoes fresh off the farm
Lovely green onions

So, not only can you buy fresh produce at the farmer’s market, but fresh baked goods and jars of tasty delicious delights!

Yes! Farmer’s markets may be trendy, but they are growing in popularity!

Join the trend and treat yourself at your local Farmers market!

P.S. If nothing is ready, well you just have to watch and wait!😀

Freaque’s Guitarist’s Unique Techniques

Last night hubby & I went out for some live music.🎶

The group “Freaque” was made up of one singer & 3 musicians that accompanied on a variety of instruments.

It was all original music mainly composed and song by the lead singer Gabriel Roderick.

I was very much impressed with the unique guitar technique with the metal rod on the strings.

The Freaque band plays around Minneapolis

The lead singer calls his brand of song-writing dirt-folk.

Fun with me & Jim also a music group 🎶

Singing with Hubby on stage last night

Last night our outdoor concert was moved indoors because of an excessive heat warning.

Temperatures were in the high 90’s. It was 97 degrees Fahrenheit (36.11 degrees Celsius) at 7pm, the time when we were supposed to be outside at the park to perform.

Happily, we got to perform indoors, on stage, at the local community center.

Loading up all the equipment was not too bad.

Teamwork and a dolly

I didn’t know if I wanted to dress up or style my hair.

So I just did the easy thing and pulled back my hair.

Ready to sing!

When we got to the venue, the Park and Rec director was there to open doors, turn on the lights and assist us.

She called Maddie O’Connor, a high school senior and fit athlete, to help lift and carry in our heavy speakers and other heavy equipment.

Maddie is a great lifter. She lifts weights, plays hockey, softball and basketball.

The performance venue was changed from German Park to the community center. People began to trickle in.

We eventually had a good-sized audience in spite of the heat outside!

I was a little distracted by all the people coming in at the beginning of show so I kind of got off track during our first number.

Here is a recording of our show last night.

Lots of nostalgic songs, but very fun to perform!

Hubby sent me this to make me laugh 😍

On the Tube: College Capers

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_to_Be_Very,_Very_Popular

I recorded an on-demand silly yet fabulous film on YouTube TV starring Betty Grable.

When the movie works, it’s great.

This movie is involved with a hypnotized vulnerable exotic dancer and her friend who wind up in a fraternity, while they run away from a bald killer.

It is really funny in places, and the dance segments are phenomenal.

You have a college man, who ends up staying in college for 17 years.

I don’t want to do all the work for you, but if you like comedy mixed with hijinx you will totally like this film

The nice thing is that it is NOT a musical with dreaming and singing with invisible orchestras, so it seems cooler than that.

I hope you give it a glance if you want to laugh at people getting bonked on the head with a detached mannequin’s arm.

Music in the Park

Over the summer our Park and Rec department puts on free Monday evening concerts in the park.

The Wildflowers all-woman trio performed at night .
Fun for the kiddies

Almost every Monday hubby and I go there to either listen or to perform.

In fact, next Monday night hubby and I will be performing our free concert there.

My music duo Molly and Sonny Boy

Yes it is hot and sunny this time of year, but hopefully, we’ll have a nice breeze like there was last night. Although it is predicted to be 100 degrees Fahrenheit or 37.78 Celsius when we come on to perform next Monday night!

The MC is my KNUJ boss, Brian

Once again 7pm in German Park, Monday June 20, 2022!

It may get hot or be relocated to the Community Center at 600 N. German, but we’ll have a lot of fun either way!

Here we are with an original sing we composed.

The Wonderful World of Domeiers German Store

Me and Jim at Domeiers

As many of you know I do a weekly radio show called, “Music from Germany.”

https://knuj.net/2022/06/05/music-from-germany-june-5/

It’s brought to you by Domeiers New Ulm’s German Store!

Hubby in front of Domeiers

Domeier’s is a unique store located at 1020 South Minnesota Street in my hometown of New Ulm, MN!

Tasty and unique treats 😋

It’s always a nice walk from my house to the wonderful world of Domeiers German Store!

I bring plastic sacks for the in-house dog, Charlie a darling Beagle boy!

Municipal Band Music

Our New Ulm Municipal Band

We really enjoyed the sounds of our Municipal band last night!

Brass band sounds

My favourite was the medley from Meredith Wilson’s, “The Music Man.”

I found out Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are performing that Hollywood musical on Broadway!

Molly and Sonny Boy

My own music duo Molly and Sonny Boy (me and hubby Jim) will be performing here at German Park on June 20, 2022!

Our Ambassadors

The Concord Singers

We have an all-male vocal group in New Ulm called the Concord Singers.

Their title is New Ulm’s Ambassadors of Goodwill.

https://concordsingers.com/

Last night we went to hear them perform at German Park.

Fun German Songs

The group has been in the area for over 90 years

It’s a nod to our German Heritage here in my hometown of New Ulm, Minnesota!

Each summer the Concord Singers are a part of an annual celebration called Bavarian Blast.
