Should I Sell My Knowledge?

Maybe you are like me. You’ve learned a lot of life’s lessons the hard way. You’ve figured out ways and means to get the best out of life, and be happy with who you are.

Then out of the blue someone sidles up to you, and wants to know what you know.

He or she wants you to tell all your secrets.

Do you give away everything for nothing? Do you give him or her all the keys to your success?

There are many books out there that tell you how to become successful.

But it seems everybody prefers to hear first-hand revelations.

Most people, who have talent and success but no great wealth, do not feel that smart.

No. The old adage seems to have a chokehold on many successful people.

It is, “If you’re so smart how come you’re not rich?”

Honestly, I’ve thought that myself when I have encountered people who are experts in a particular niche, or have a measure of fame.

Especially college professors. Most of them are not rich. But they know a lot.

I suppose putting labels on others and on ourselves is not a good idea.

I may seem selfish to withhold advice to the young (or not so young) who have approached me asking for my guidance.

So far, I have revealed everything I have learned or done in order to be where I am at. Yet, I sometimes think I shouldn’t.

I believe we all have to figure it out in our own special way. That way, the failures only sweeten the success and lessons can be truly learned.

Otherwise, if people need a coach or counsellor, I should charge them by the hour, so I can get rich from my wisdom and experience.

Force 8

  • wp-1464195860311.jpg

I am sure most adults struggle with this problem that the digital world can cause.
How do you push away from the excitement of the Internet?

It’s time to get enough sleep.

You cannot know how good it feels to be well-rested, until you try it!
Force yourself, if you must, to get those 8 (or 9)
hours of peaceful rest for mind, body, metabolism and happiness.
You will be more alert, feel stronger and maybe even live longer!

Love or Lust?

image

We all hear that lust is “bad” and “love” is good.
We all have passions.
The fine distinction between love and lust can really help us when making choices.
That is if we remain aware.
We may lust after sweets or deep-fried foods.
We may lust after impulse buys and regret all the accumulated clutter.
Our lust for donuts may have us lamenting our portly belly.
Our lust for lust may leave us without a home.
So, it helps if we define whether or not we are led by love or by lust.
You can’t always trust lust.

8 to 8 feels great!

image

On my quest for a smaller girth, I found one thing that seems to help me to drop weight besides hard exercise. It is the avoidance of eating anything between 8pm and 8am.

I stick to this rule steadfastly.

If it is later than 8pm, and I mindlessly say to myself, “Boy, I sure could eat some buttered popcorn or a PB & J sandwich,” then I am stopped by the clock.

Like Scarlett O’Hara, (but without the 17 inch waist,) I think, “Tomorrow is another day!”

The mind online

image

So everyone finds out sooner or later that while many of us do not know our neighbours, the stars of Hollywood are very well-known to most people. They like to use their fame as a platform for their opinions.
Like many of us, wasting time online is a pleasure to them as well.
The devil of it all is the bad example they communicate to the young.
Once the Internet was hailed as a boon to educate people and build ties, bridge differences and create global harmony.
Anyone who looks at their Facebook stream, especially during an election year will find out soon enough where loyalties lie among celebrities and commoners alike.
There is a study that mentioned the most dramatic and dismal posts are those that receive the most feedback.
I have curtailed my time on social media
because I don’t want to get depressed.
The old saying, “Thanks for sharing,” does not apply when “friends” or “followers” care to share the ugly sides of their world.
Am I a Pollyanna girl?
If I want to. It’s my right. I am sensitive. I get upset easily.
I will ache for you. Yet, if I am fragile, you will have to excuse me if I step away to protect myself.
The world that bleeds on me doesn’t need me to answer back.
I just won’t.
And I know that it won’t make one bit of difference if I won’t bite on the line.
Some folks need attention, and will bait you. I suggest they think about the long-term effects of their cries of “Wolf.”
Don’t play your games. The world needs less foolishness, and more strength, love and beauty!
Be free, but don’t be hurtful.

Work + Play

Probably everyone wishes to find a job where work is play! The closest I’ve ever come to having a job which is fun, is what I have been doing for over 20 years.

Popcorn & A Rose

image

I cut out sugar and alcohol on weekdays.

On weekdays mind-numbing late-night TV-watching and monotonous online Facebook games are also verboten!
Why the push to healthier living and less time-wasting?
The answer lies in the rose:
To be beautiful!😙

Power of reading

image

Do you want to improve your inner world? Do you want to grow your imagination? Do you want to get deep insight in a field you may have restricted access to, or travel to a world away from where you are? Do you want to associate with supergreat people who are canny, and classy, people so full of passion, focus and determination they will overcome the most incredible odds to achieve their mission?

Then read a good book.

It takes consistent practice to switch out of the noise of the electronic attractions to crack open a book.

Nevertheless, you will be more inspired and more creative when you walk around in a good author’s book, and open your curiosity to new adventures.

OK. I admit it. My two dogs are not angels. Nevertheless, when they go for walks they are leashed!

We (my two dogs + I,) had two adrenaline spikes that nearly made us faint this week.
The first happened at the intersection of State  and Fifth South (an unmarked intersection.)
An evil woman with a vacant head and a heavy foot in a dark Suburban drove towards the dogs and me as we attempted to cross State street. She accelerated and nearly ran us down. I wondered if she was blind or else had a perverse mind. The dogs and I had to race to get out of her path, to escape her idiotic driving.
The second adrenaline spike happened midweek, on a lovely Spring evening when I thought I’d walk the dogs on a different route.
We lazily sauntered up a sidewalk when 2 large barking dogs appeared without a leash aggressively attacking my two dogs.
The owner, a middle-aged neighbour came out of her house yelling at the dogs. They paid her no mind. The two big dogs saw their chance, and until they got yanked back to the house, they continued terrifying my two dogs + me!
Happily, no one was injured.
Speaking of injuries, I had to phone the police awhile back regarding someone’s cat. This tells you how much some people care. The cat lay dead on the road outside my door. I couldn’t bear to look at the sweet little thing. It’s owners let it out. It only has 1 life. So do you. So do I. So do our dogs.
Please follow the rules.

Adult Swim

image

Today I am off to the pool.
I hurt a muscle in my left foot and I need to get some exercise.
The treadmill is out.
So is jogging and tennis.
Even walking the dogs is a pain.
What’s left?
The pool!
So, I got myself into the pool.
I got a good 15 laps in.
Then, I sat in the hot tub.
I went home after swimming.
I taught after school music lessons.
When I got home I felt a huge tiredness come over me.
What a wonderful workout.
I know I will go swimming again soon.
