Haywire weekend

image

How come my heart rate is up today?
It’s because it’s been a very violent weekend in America.
As a radio broadcaster, and weekend newscaster, I have had to read and hear about the most heinous crimes against fellow humans hour after hour.
So much human life lost to criminally insane people.
Senseless killing.
It hurts to work in bringing news to the world when my fellow humankind are working against peace and love.
I hope someday there will be a way to find harmony among all nationalities.
This foolishness has to stop!

If Dreams Could Make Wishes Come True

image

So many times lately l’ve thought or spoken about something, and it magically appears!
Beer was on my mind today and I opened a magazine that covered the topic of beer.
I spoke of garbage trucks and lo and behold! We were watching “Earnest Scared Stupid,” and there is a scene where the dog pushes a lever and Earnest gets caught in the back of a crushing garbage truck.

These things have been happening to me a lot lately.
If dreams could make wishes come true…..I would dream of myself 60 lbs lighter, 1 billion dollars richer and 15 years old knowing what I know now! Okay? Thank you!

“A Happy Tree”

image

I must be
Like a happy tree.
Creative, and infinite.
Joyfully, beautifully focused on
Spreading my branches.
Fresh, clear, motionless.
Calm.
Powerful in scope.
Growing…
A happy tree laughing at the sun.

The Tiger Lilies

image

Her bulbs are blossoming into prominent flowers!
She paints the town in a blaze of orange.
She’s come back after a long winter’s nap.
The Tiger Lilies are majestic!
Welcome home to Minnesota.
Welcome back to my backyard!

Camera Pressure

image

Today I was alone swimming laps in the deep-end of the local swimming pool. Two ladies were in the shallow-end talking, and there were a few folks soaking in the adjacent hot tub.
A man suddenly appeared poolside with a video camera to tape the head of the Park and Rec Department.
Apparently, they were making a video of the whole facility.
Whilst swimming my laps I attempted my best Esther Williams imitation.
I was surprised to see them taping in my little corner of the world. But these days nothing’s off-Iimits.
What surprised me even more was why one of the gents in the hot tub did not want to be taped on-camera, and hopped in the pool when he caught sight of the video camera.
Anyways, it got me thinking about the future.
As far as I can tell, cameras and drones are going to be far more present, and with them more pressure will be brought to bear on the public.
More pressure to want to look good on camera, to avoid being caught on camera, to own cameras for safety and pleasure, overall, more “camera pressure!”
Will it be camera-equipped “Big Brother-like” drones as in George Orwell’s “1984” or camera-equipped drones as in “America’s Funniest Home videos?”
Only time will tell!

2 Strange Scenarios

image

Today I encountered 2 Strange Scenarios.
Both happened while I was out on the streets with my dogs on our daily 1 hour walk.
I was happily walking my two fur kids, whilst listening to The Tim Ferris show. It was the second half of his interview with Mike Rowe.
As the dogs and I walked on, a big Suburban slowed down and a creepy elderly man tried
to chat me up.
“I see you have two dogs for protection,” he uttered.
I looked at him, and then at a guy mowing the front yard across the street.
I felt relieved there was a witness to this strange encounter.
All I did was wave, and say, ” Thanks.”
I made a weird face, and shook my head as if to say, “Leave me alone!”
Figuring I would not take his bait, and that I was not a lonely street-walker, the lonely old man drove away.
Thank goodness!
Next I got to the top of a hill and stopped to pour water in a plastic dog bowl for my dogs to quench their thirst.
A gal came by. She was twice my size and was walking at a slow pace. As the dogs and I walked slowly behind the heavy-set gal,
I realized I would have to pass her and I was embarrassed to do so.
I wanted to cross the street,  but there are no sidewalks on the other side.
So, I mustered up the courage and hustled by her dragging my two meandering pooches.
They don’t like to be rushed either.
I felt glad the gal was at least exercising, albeit slowly.

To Be Strong for Comic Con!

Today I am pondering my Weight Reduction Plan.
Daily I try to move more, and eat less.
Nevertheless, in spite of all my good intentions it feels like it’s an uphill climb.
Food is so wonderful, and so plentiful here in the USA.
The Internet is so alluring,  and sitting on my bum is more convenient than anything.
How do I get back to the size 10 l once was?
I still exercise 30 minutes plus daily: be it walking the dogs or swimming laps, cleaning house or trudging behind a lawn mower.
Yet, it’s food that always arrests my progress.
The needle on the scale repeats the same numbers with minor variations of 3-4 lbs. Like a mini-see-saw up + down, a half a pound..
l am going to continue my quest for a tiny waist and a buff physique, but right now it all seems like a pipe-dream. Wishful thinking.
I keep a daily public record of all I eat on Pinterest.

My little meals

l have Very Real Reasons that motivate
me to want to be fit as a gymnast.
One reason is to have more pep.
The other is to be able to give to others more. More service, more help, and more encouragement.
It’s hard to make others feel good about themselves when you don’t feel so good about yourself.
The most selfish reason l have to show extreme self-denial from the abundance of food and drink temptations is Cosplay.
I can’t wear the sexy cinch-waist Steam Punk
fashions I crave when my gut hangs over my FUPA (Fat Upper Pubic Area!)
So, I have to continue my fitness endeavours.
I need to stretch, strength-train, do cardio and
keep monitoring what I eat.
I have been very good about NOT eating between 8pm-8am.
I have a trip to San Diego Comic Con coming up in the latter part of July.
My ego begs me to look hot, my appetite begs me to eat hearty!
Here is my original song:

To be strong for Comic Con

What is a holiday?

image

What is a holiday?
I pondered that question on this Memorial Day.
There are lawns being mowed.
There are cars are being towed.
Stores are open for buying.
Backyard chefs are out there frying.
The police are still out on their beat, and the Stanley cup players are up on their feet.
I had to work more than half the day, while I saw friends get outdoors, on the lake, to play!
I saw the news crews out there scurrying
Because people can’t stop all their worrying.
So, what constitutes a holiday?
l’ve deduced it means work for some people,
and for others it just means play!

Our Two Best Friends

image

We have two best friends, They are our exercise machines. They are our doorbells, and our private security guards.
They are like psychiatrists, that provide us with the invisible drug called, “puppy love.”
Yet, they are getting older too.
The 13 year old Pomeranian called Pixie has a laundry list of ailments that are chronic and incurable, such as blindness, diabetes and Cushing’s disease.
Yet, that does not lessen her lovability, or her love ability!
The lively, rambunctious 12 year old Poodle named Cole, is the joy of our existence as well.
However, like a diva, he is needy, codependent and a little bi-polar.
He shrieks when he wants his way.
But, since we spoil him, we love him anyway.
No, seriously, although they are aging, we owe them our gratitude for all the affection and exercise they add to our lives.
The old saying holds true “lf you want loyalty get a dog.”
I hate it when old dogs are mocked on TV for aging. Whilst their doggy bodies may start to crumble, in this stage of life’s cruel passage, a little love and care will brighten their existence.
They deserve our gratitude at any age for their
unconditional, and unconventional love.

My Little Meals

image

I have a new Pinterest board to track my eating.
My Little Meals
It’s been noted that eating several small meals a day is better for you than eating huge meals infrequently.
So, I am experimenting with the idea.
Even though I am a vegetarian, I still need to be careful about the foods I eat.
Feel free to follow my board.
The best food is tasted and savored.
A good way to do that is eating like a gourmet and not like a gourmand.
